'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the thrilling final moments of his team's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses after the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range shot from 25 yards, and the defender promptly slammed home the rebound before racing off toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with fans congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

This sealed an extraordinary comeback given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the latter period. Amid the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result booked a fourth-round match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for having a go from that far out," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right defensive wing after Orient changed shape. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who praised the way the underdogs played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the simple things and simple things, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they know how to control and slow down a game. You can feel you're all right and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even noticing. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It requires a tough attitude and concentration just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at his former club and has quickly done the same in Wales. At his previous team he reunited with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at lower division the Manchester club, before he departed Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that development for his team and nation, performing well for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including both legs encounters against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

It has been a remarkable path for the player from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his father, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's single match for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was shut owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "It was a long trip and it was freezing," he recalls, smiling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged 16? "This turned out quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I understood I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it became apparent where I believed I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, Ronald, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would mix with fans on the Tube after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
