The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Shift Follows Poor Response
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a more defined vision.
The president stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to satisfy community desires.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
The news mirrors a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the entire message from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re excited for that relationship to endure.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to consideration and reimagined the title with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. After some time of talks, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
His management and background in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having spent the last 15 years producing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in greeting Ben next week. We are all eager to keep seeing the evolution of the game in the time to follow.
David
